Alone and friendless, confused and dejected, I began to wander the land aimlessly on my Huffy bicycle, stewing in a cauldron of self pity, anger and resentments.
The cheerful person I had been just weeks before, always a big smile on my face, in love with life and the world was now dead. I had become a dark and brooding bicycle hobo peddling mile after lonely mile on the road to anywhere. I was vaguely a vacuous vagabond riding one of those bicycles built for nobody and riding it no place fast, finding my way there with a compass devised by a fool and forged by a lunatic on the 13th floor of Hell.
Then one day near Jennings, Louisiana, I happened upon a miracle. As I was kicking through the roadside brush in search of a small animal to eat, something caught my eye that would change my life forever and restore to me the humanity that had been snatched from my soul by certain persons and circumstances not so very long ago. It was a brightly painted cylindrical object and it was reflecting the morning sunlight in such a way as to be actually spellbinding. It was fascinating to me and was the first thing of true beauty I had seen in a very long time. After a while I decided to look closer. There was writing on the thing. I dared to touch it, somehow sensing intuitively that it would not harm me.
"Keystone ICE, 16 fluid OZ, 5.9% ALC./VOL."
The thing was a can of Beer! I knew about beer. I had heard that people drink it, but it had never occurred to me before this day to actually try it.
I opened the can, took it to my lips and drank deeply until it's contents were entirely gone.
It gladdened my heart! I felt a sense of warmth begin in my belly and spread outward. I began to smile brightly and the self pity that had been my only companion suddenly evaporated like a small puddle of mouse urine on a pancake griddle! I wanted to seek out others and abandon my self-imposed isolation! I will seek out others and help them in any way possible, I swore, right there over the empty can!
I don't question it and neither should you. If you would like to see my mission continue, I would urge you to please donate.
